Last month, former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) visited Israel with a group sponsored by the Family Research Council (FRC), a D.C. lobbying group whose mission is to “advance faith, family and freedom in public policy and the culture from a Christian worldview.”[1]
While there, Bachmann went on the Washington Watch radio program, hosted by FRC president, Tony Perkins. She said that her trip to the Holy Land had convinced her more than ever that biblical prophecy is being fulfilled right now, observing that almost everything in the daily news regarding Israel “ties with so much biblical prophecy.” Jesus is “coming soon,” she said, adding that “we’re seeing the fulfillment of scripture right in front of her eyes.”[2]
Seventy-seven percent of U.S. evangelicals agree with her about that, as do 40 percent of all Americans.[3]
Bachmann stressed the need for Jews to convert to Christianity, in her opinion, to prepare for the imminent return of Christ. “The Jewish state of Israel truly is a miracle of the hand of God. This is a fulfillment of God’s word. We recognize the shortness of the hour and that’s why we as a remnant want to be faithful in these days and do what it is that the Holy Spirit is speaking to each one of us, to be faithful in the kingdom and to help bring in as many as we can — even among the Jews — share Jesus Christ with everyone that we possibly can because, again, he’s coming soon.”[2]
Bachmann’s call for Jews to convert to Christianity was criticized by some in the mainstream media, but, of course, there’s nothing new about her sentiments. However, one wonders why evangelical Christians bother with converting Jews, considering that biblical prophecy has already determined exactly how the End Times is going to play out anyway. To summarize from the Book of Revelation: The antichrist will convince Israel that he is the Messiah, and deceive them into signing some sort of peace plan. Then, he will immediately unleash a 7-year reign of terror, after which the real Messiah will make His long-awaited return, and Armageddon will commence. The antichrist will be defeated, and raptured Christians plus exactly 144,000 converted Jews will be forever with the Lord.[3]
