Coincidence or plot? Politicizing pope singles out Trump, who’s anti-mandatory vaccination…

The vicar of Christ, His holy presence on Earth – supposedly – just called out a candidate for the U.S. presidency, something unheard of until now, for being, of all things, un-Christian.

For reasons known only to Pope Francis, the most Left-wing, liberal pontiff in generations, his Holy See thought it appropriate, and his place, to level a charge at top GOP contender Donald Trump which a pope has never leveled at any other U.S. presidential contender or private citizen. Now, it seems, a candidate’s policies – in this case, Trump’s policy of wanting to build a wall along the U.S. southwest border to curb hordes of illegal immigrants – are fair game for the Christian God.

What would Jesus do?

Well, apparently he would first read his mind and then insult the man who, one day, may be the only thing between Vatican City and swarms of anti-Christian Islamic extremists, many of whom are likely streaming into Europe as I write.

The pope, visiting heavily Catholic Mexico, was asked by Mexican media what he thought about Trump’s wall proposition, and the pontiff did not mince any words in his answer, as noted by Breitbart News:

A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not of building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the Gospel. As far as what you said about whether I would advise to vote or not to vote, I am not getting involved in that. I say only this man is not Christian if he has said things like that.

True to his form, The Donald, when hit with an insult like that, hit back, only much more respectfully than he was attacked:

[The Pope] actually said that maybe I’m not a good Christian, which is really not a nice thing to say. If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president, because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk no action politicians.

Speaking at a campaign event in South Carolina, where the next primary takes place this weekend, Trump continued: “The pope only heard one side of the story. He didn’t see the crime, the drug trafficking and the negative economic impact the current policies have on the United States. The Mexican government its leadership have made many disparaging remarks about me.”

Trump is correct, of course. And what of a president who puts his own nation at risk from criminal aliens and Mexico-based drug gangs, a la a Justice Department operation aimed at undermining a basic constitutional right? Is that a “Christian” thing to do? How about the Obama’s attending a “Christian” church whose pastor once proclaimed, “Godd**m America”?

Silence from this pope.

Then again, there is no small amount of hypocrisy involved here, either – as you might have guessed. As you can see, Vatican City is surrounded by great, big, tall walls.

“If the translation is correct, the Pope is going way beyond ‘Who am I to judge? (his famous comments about homosexuals) to declaring a man ‘not a Christian over one issue,” Breitbart’s John Nolte, a self-professed [new] Catholic. “To condemn an entire man over this one issue, especially when the Pope himself lives behind towering walls, is hard to grasp.”

Of the pope’s condemnation of Trump, Dr. Ben Carson, also a GOP presidential contender, joined other candidates Sen. Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush in defending Trump against the attack.

“It would be hilarious if it weren’t so sad,” he said.

In a later statement he added: “I have spoken often about the need for faith and compassion in America. However, enforcing our immigration laws is not in contradiction with love and kindness. As Christians, we are called to love our neighbors. But as a nation, we must also defend our sovereignty and security.”

Said Bush: “I think the Pope said Trump is un-Christian. That’s between him and his Creator … it is not un-Christian to protect your border, to keep people out who come here illegally.”

And Rubio: “Vatican City controls who comes in, when they come in, and how they come in, as a city-state. The United States has a right to do that, as well.”
